Our History

The Institute was established in the Year 2000 as Informatics Institute under a franchise agreement with Informatics Education Ltd. (then called Informatics Holdings Ltd) Singapore, to focus on delivering world-class quality training in the area of Information and Communication Technology to the citizens of Jigawa State in particular and Nigeria in general.
Since inception, the Institute has had an overwhelming response from young Nigerians aspiring to receive their education in information technology. Over the years, the Institute has trained thousands of youth from Nigeria and the neighbouring countries at the levels of International Diploma, Advanced Diploma and Degree in computing and other ICT
professional courses.
From inception, the Institute started Diploma in Information Technology (DIT) from 2002 to 2004 after which the franchisor (Informatics, Singapore) changed the programme to International Diploma in Computing and International Advanced Diploma By the year 2007, the Institute was running the following courses:
1 Foundation Certificate for Higher Education (FCHE)
2 International Diploma in Computing (IDIC)
3 International Advance Diploma in Computing (IADIC)
4 Cable Technology (C-Tech) a Certified Instructorship
5 Certified Cable Networking Administrator (CCNA)
6 Oracle Certificate
7 Certificate in Computer Application and
8 Online Degree. (Portsmouth and Wales Universities)
In November 2007 the government set up a Committee to review the status of the Institute so as to place it at par with similar tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Consequently, a law formally establishing the Institute was enacted as law number 10, of 2008, a Governing Council was inaugurated on Monday 12th November, 2008 and a proper management structure put in place with appointment of a Rector, Registrar and some Directors, while other principal officers were appointed in 2010.
The C-Tech Programme was introduced under another franchise agreement with C-Tech Associates New Jersey, USA late 2006. The programme offers professional training for communication personnel in Copper, Fiber Optic Cabling and Integrated Voice and Messaging. The Institute has a C-Tech laboratory set up with facilities equivalent to that of
New Jersey. From inception in 2006 to date, the C-Tech unit has produced potential candidates and employees for GSM Companies in Nigeria.
In 2008, the Jigawa State Government launched an overseas scholarship programme to identify and grant promising Nigerians of Jigawa State origin opportunity in their academic pursuits to complete Bachelor of Science degree in computing in Singapore.
By 2010/2011 academic session, the Institute secured an interim accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to mount National Diploma (ND) in Computer Science. The ND programme was started in October 2010.
The National Diploma programme runs concurrently with Informatics International Diploma and International Advanced Diploma programmes as well as other Certificate Programmes.

By September 2010, the IDIC programme was replaced with a new programme, International Diploma in Information Technology & Communication (IDITC). The IADIC programme was replaced with International Advanced Diploma in Networks & Cyber Security (IADNCS). An additional programme, International Diploma in Engineering Technology (IDET) was introduced at the same time. The Institute records an average enrolment of 750 students per year. In September 2015, Certificate In Foundation Skills (CIFS) a new programme was introduced to replace Foundation Course for HigherEducation (FCHE), with three core modules skills (Technology, Numeracyand Literacy).
In 2018, NBTE accredited the commencement of HND Computer Science, ND Computer Science, ND Computer Engineering and NDLibrary & Information Science as academic programmes.
In 2020, the same NBTE gave full accreditation to ND ComputerScience and ND Library & Information Science programmes, whileinterim status was given to ND Computer Engineering programme.
In 2021, preparations have been in the pipeline to mount more NationalDiploma Programmes in the following areas:
1 ND Electrical/ Electronic Engineering
2 ND Printing Technology
3 ND Health Information Management
In 2021, the management made submission to His Excellency, thevisitor for the upgrade of the institute to a full pledge ICT- Polytechnicfor the benefit of the state and Nigeria in general. Preparation for morecourses and facilities are in the pipeline.

Our Philosophy

The philosophy of the Institute is provision of qualitative and functional Information and Communication Technology education and training for the new generation of indigenes of Jigawa State in particular and Nigeria in general and to equip the youth with leading skills and knowledge for economic development and career advancement to meet global employment standard.
